Let's Preserve Open Space Along The SF Shoreline

NO Restaurant on the Marina Green!

Unbeknownst to virtually everyone in San Francisco is the fact that the San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department is quietly attempting to convert a long-vacant historic building on the Marina Green into a commercial restaurant by executing a ten-year lease (with options to extend for an additional 10 years) with the Woodhouse Fish Company. This is an affront to open community notification and participation for public space use. The policy making is just plain wrong for so many reasons:

  • It violates the Recreation and Open Space Element of the General Plan.
  • No environmental impacts or historic evaluations have been addressed.
  • As part of the use, Woodhouse Fish Company plans to serve alcohol in a public playground, which is against public policy.
  • A traffic study hasn't been conducted.
  • It violates SF City Charter Section 4.113 which states that any sale or lease of park property for non- recreational purpose must be approved by the electorate.
48 neighborhood organizations oppose the proposal, and Rec and Parks has never made a meaningful attempt to consult the local neighborhood nor Marina Green users. Please read the detailed explanation and sign our electronic petition today to help preserve open space and keep the Marina Green commercial free. Or download the full detailed proposal here.

The following San Francisco organizations adamantly OPPOSE this proposal:
  • Coalition of San Francisco Neighborhoods
  • Marina Neighborhood Association
  • The Marina Civic Improvement and Property Owners Association
